A key monastic site, Fontevraud impresses the visitor with its size : imposing site, complex architecture and lively history. From the médieval kitchens to the recumbent Kings of England, from the Bourbons to the daughters of Louis XV, from the decor ordered by a long line of Abbesses to the traces left by prisoners, history lovers will be overwhelmed by their visit. Now a cultural meeting centre and an ambassador of the classified "Loire Valley World Héritage Site", Fontevraud Abbey continues today as a cultural and tourist centre open to both contemporary création and reflection.

Claire Giraud-Labalte, art historian, is a lecturer atthe Catholic University of Western France. In addition to her research work, she also gives guidance in appreciating the heritage that surrounds us.

A photographer of héritage sites, Patrice Giraud specializes in the capture of architectural sights and works of art.
