"On n'est pas dans le futurisme, mais dans un drame bourgeois ou un thriller atmosphérique"
In Via Veritas introduces a new paradigm in architecture and city planning. The route (via in Latin) allows for a different interpretation of space, one that acknowledges places not as isolated entities, but as the products of movements, relationships, flows, and processes.
Routes are not merely infrastructure. They create meaning and identity.
This book explores the development of the concept of the route in detail. What is a route? What are its components and archetypes? In Via Veritas distinguishes between such archetypes as procession and patrol, smuggle and scavenger, commute and migration.
In Via Veritas then catalogues these routes and their impact. Their challenges and opportunities are explored in ten relevant case studies: a political pilgrimage to Brussels, the reconversion of Limburg, the design of a sustainable distribution model for fruits and vegetables, a new vision on tourism in times of climate change!
The publication is the result of the collaborative research of Joeri De Bruyn (Public Space), Maarten Van Acker (University of Antwerp) and Maat-ontwerpers.
